Born in 1950 Alex Corina studied
at the Regional College of Art in Bradford before moving to Liverpool
20 years ago. Alex is best known for his picture the Mona Lennon,
which represents Liverpool's Past, Present and Future but also symbolises
its aspirations. His work aims to capture the spirit and humour of
the City in the run up to the Capital of Culture 2008.
"My recent work is experimental combining material and borrowing
techniques from painting, drawing, collage and photography. As well
as portraiture my work explores the dynamic between the apparent
immortality of art, and recycling.

The Beatles Reunited - unframed. Limited edition(200)
|
| This picture shows the Beatles reunited for one last gig at the cavern joining the hundreds of thousands of people who make the pilgrimage annually to Liverpool and particularly the cavern. The Beatles reunited depicts the Beatles as they were in the 60s in the cavern and combines again the Mona Lisa but this time four of them in a classical (printed) frame as a masterpiece would be. Alex Corina says “ I think this picture is more spiritual and darker than the Mona Lennon. I hope it combines the atmosphere of the Cavern with a religious like significance ‘a temple’ where thousands of people pay homage. |

God Gave us Wayne - Limited Edition Print (75)
|
| God Gave Us Wayne brings together Popular Culture with the Classical, a Celebration of Wayne Rooney's talent and achievement with Michelangelo's Perfect Man in the shape of Adam being touched by the hand of God.
" This series aims to capture the spirit of Liverpool in the run up to the Capital of Culture in 2008. It's humour, success and its aspirations for 2008. The prints are intended to combine the popular with the classical, and the topical while acknowledging the achievements of the past. With all the speculation during the summer about Wayne's future and the poor publicity I felt we should celebrate the fact that he is incredibly talented and achieved so much in Euro 2004. |
